6:00 - 8:00: Catered reception, including a talk about early results and future directions for research in the museum's Bay Observatory, a glass building at the end of the pier with unique and stunning views of the city skyline and the Bay.
8:00 - 10:00: Free time to enjoy the new Exploratorium, which opened at Pier 15 six months ago.
About the Bay Observatory: A major research platform within the Observatory is the Wired Pier, a collection of scientific instruments and sensors that is continuously monitoring water conditions, weather, climate, and air quality at the site. The Wired Pier is also a node in a scientific observing network stretching around the San Francisco Bay, the California coastline and beyond, a unique role for a science museum to both participate in research and communicate the process and results of ongoing environmental science.
Live and time-series data, as well as data visualizations from this network, are displayed on monitors and on a video wall in the Observatory, and shared with scientists, educators, students and the public in real time.
