NCSWA members are invited on a camping trip to Sagehen Creek Field Station just north of Truckee in the Sierra Nevada for a weekend of hiking and talks about forest and fire management and research projects ranging from chickadee communication to restoration of the Lohantan trout. Sagehen is operated by UC Berkeley as part of the University of California's Natural Reserve System.

Members and their families and friends, including children (but no pets), are invited to camp or bunk in cabins for two nights, Aug. 16-18. On Saturday, Aug. 17, Sagehen manager Jeff Brown will fill us in on the many projects underway at Sagehen, and lead the group on a half-day hike to check out the reserve. We also hope to hear from other scientists conducting on-site research.

Sagehen charges $20/night/person for a campsite or bunk in a cabin (children are the same price as adults). Those staying in a bunkhouse need to bring bedding for twin mattresses. Food is not provided, but there is a cookhouse with enough room for everyone to prepare dinner or share dinner duties. All are welcome to hike the property or even fish in Sagehen Creek. For more detail, a map and photos of the accommodations, link to http://sagehen.ucnrs.org/info.htm.

Please sign up and pay in advance; 40 spaces are available.

Contact Bob Sanders if you have questions.
