For many science writers, writing books is a common aspiration, but few of us are equipped with the knowledge or experience to break into the book publishing world.
Thomas Levenson, professor at MIT's Graduate Program in Science Writing, is a seasoned author, having published several books, including Money for Nothing, The Hunt for Vulcan, Einstein in Berlin, and Newton and the Counterfeiter: The Unknown Detective Career of the World’s Greatest Scientist. His newest, called So Very Small, will be published by Penguin Random House on April 29.Levenson will share with registrants the proposal he successfully submitted for So Very Small and will give an inside view of the successive manuscript revisions that resulted in the published work. He’ll describe his career progression from science documentary filmmaker and freelance science journalist to successful book author, including the unique challenges of long-form writing and how book authors can collaborate with publishers to successfully promote their work.
