The NCSWA Professional Development Committee is excited to host three virtual writing workshops with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, professor, and story coach Jacqui Banaszynski.

The lunchtime Zoom sessions will take place from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: January 15, February 12, and March 12. The workshops are free for all NCSWA members.

Session 1: THE POWER OF STORY FOCUS.

The workshop centers on a counterintuitive truth: the more complex your project or story, the narrower you want keep your focus. Think narrow and deep rather than broad, scattered, and thin. In this workshop, we’ll discuss key strategies to identify the core focus or takeaway of your story, then layering in supporting material. Focus can be used to help build an early reporting plan, to determine needed sources, and then to organize and structure your material. It serves as a roadmap for the writer and a frame for the reader.

Registration is limited, so sign up now! The topics and registration for the February and March workshops will be announced at a later date.
