Drew Berry is renowned for his visually stunning, scientifically accurate animations of molecular and cellular processes. At this special NCSWA presentation, you will enter a world smaller than the eye can see, in the bloodstream of a child infected by the malaria parasite. Witness beautiful living landscapes of human cells and the diabolical tricks the malaria parasite uses to evade detection by the immune system.

Berry will show his award-winning malaria animation, with mosquitoes, parasites, and human cells accurately reconstructed in scale, shape, and dynamic behavior.

Beginning his career as a cell biologist, Berry transforms complicated scientific concepts into vivid and meaningful animated journeys. Called the “Steven Spielberg of molecular animation” by The New York Times, Berry has led biomedical animation within the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) in Melbourne, Australia’s flagship institution for medical research, since 1995.

His work has been showcased at the Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Royal Institute of Great Britain. In 2011, he collaborated with Björk on her app-album and music video for the “Biophilia” tour. He has received numerous awards, including an Emmy, a BAFTA, and a MacArthur Fellowship.
